AGiSS GradeBook Software for Windows
JavaGrade for All Operating Systems
AGiSS GradeBook Software is a collection of software tools
to assist the educators at any level in the daily grading and planning
tasks. Originally this software was
called “The Windows GradeBook” (WinGrade) and took care of daily grade
recording and reporting. Now this
software also includes the “AGiSS Lesson Planner” (ALP) software, as well as a
suite of other utilities.
This software allows educators to maintain one or more class grade books by providing the ability to:
NEW Syncrhonize your gradebook and lesson plan files with a WebJavaGrade server
NEW Override cumulative calculated grades
NEW Registered users can get latest features and fixes
directly from GradeBook via the web
Add as many students as needed at any time during the year
Record assignment grades
Organize assignments according to built in types or create your own
types (e.g. Homework, Test, Quiz, Final, …)
Move students from one class to another (including their
assignment scores)
Calculate student grades based on points, percentages, or weights
Customize the grading scale
Generate and print detailed student reports (summary, progress
reports, report cards)
Drop low grades
Generate HTML GradeBook Web Pages to post grades on the internet
(using WebPost)
Create a Virtual
GradeBook so that students and parents can look up their grades from
the internet using a student login information
Send e-Grade
reports directly from the software to be delivered to any e-mail address in the
world so that students and parents are informed of the student progress
Create seating charts (handy for substitutes)
View assignment averages
Track student attendance
Much more…
The latest enhancement to the software is the ability to
syncrhonize your gradebook files between your Windows computer and a web server running
WebJavaGrade. This allows you to edit your class files while away from your
normal computer where you use WinGrade or ALP, by using WebJavaGrade which updates the class files
on the web server. Then when you return to the computer where your files are normally saved, you can tell
the software to syncrhonize your files. No guesswork as to which file is the most recent, the software figures
that out for you.
The other benefit of this feature is that if you are using WebJavaGrade, students and parents
can check their grades at anytime, from any computer (Mac, Windows, Linux, Unix,...) that is capable of running a
web browser. All you have to do is syncrhonize your files, and parents and students immediately have access to the latest
grades and lesson plans!
Another enhancement to the software (new in version 4.5) was the addition of the e-Grade feature. This feature allows you to send several different types of reports (all generated by the software) directly to any deliverable e-mail address in the world. If you can enter an e-mail address, specify the report type, and click a button, then you can send e-Grade reports at any time from any computer (provided the computer is connected to a network with the internet access, or connected directly to the internet).
WebJavaGrade
is a port of the AGiSS GradeBook for Windows, using the operating system
independent platform of Java, that runs
completely within the context of your web browser. Since WebJavaGrade uses the JavaRuntimeEnvironment (JRE)
for its platform of execution, any browser capable of running the JRE 1.3 or
higher, will be able to run WebJavaGrade. The ultimate benefit of such a flexible software package means
that no matter where you go, as long as you have a computer with access to the
internet (or intranet) and access to the WebJavaGrade web server, you
will be able to access/modify/update/view all of your class data files. NEW!!!
Now there is a WebJavaLessonPlan to allow you to modify your lesson plans.
This software provides access to the basic gradebook features needed for daily activities. Since this is the first version of the software, it doesn't have the full feature set as described above for AGiSS GradeBook Software for Windows. Most of the grade book functionality is in place including the ability to add/modify/delete students as well as assignments, and the ability to modify the grading scale. The files saved from WebJavaGrade, AGiSS GradeBook Software for Windows, and JPdaGrade are completely compatible with each other. Meaning that a grade book file saved in WebJavaGrade could be opened and modified in JavaGrade, JPdaGrade, or in the AGiSS GradeBook Software for Windows.
First off, you need a web server capable of serving up standard web files, including cgi scripts or jsp files. (If you don’t have one, let AGiSS host your WebJavaGrade class files for you) The web server where WebJavaGrade is setup, consists mainly of a handful of cgi/jsp scripts and a few configuration files that allow one WebJavaGrade to service every educator in your school. Each educator is given their own private login, password, and directory to store class files. In order to use the service you must have your login name and your password. To use WebJavaGrade from your web browser, you simply go to a specified URL and type in your login name and password. From there the WebJavaGrade software will load into your browser, and allow you to upload new class files, open your class files residing on the web server. Your students can even check their grades at any time from a web browser. All they need is the class id and the class password you specify and their student identification number to access their grades.
9/12/04 Version 1.0 is complete! If you would like to see a specific feature available in WebJavaGrade, please let us know by sending an e-mail.

JavaGrade
is a port of the AGiSS GradeBook for Windows, using the operating system
independent platform of Java. Since JavaGrade uses the Java Virtual
Machine (JVM) for its platform of execution, any operating system that has a
compatible JVM, will be able to run JavaGrade. The benefit of such a flexible software package means that no
matter where you go, as long as you have a computer (running Windows, Linux,
Unix, or Mac) with a JVM installed, you will be able to run JavaGrade
and edit or view your class files.
This software provides access to many of the features listed above. Version 1.0 provides
access to the features you need for daily use, but it doesn’t have
the full feature set as described above for AGiSS GradeBook Software for
Windows. Most of the grade book
functionality is in place including the ability to add/modify/delete students
as well as assignments, and the ability to modify the grading scale. The files saved from JavaGrade, AGiSS
GradeBook Software, and JPdaGrade are completely compatible with each
other. Meaning that a grade book file
saved in JavaGrade could be opened and modified in JPdaGrade, or in the Windows
AGiSS GradeBook Software.
9/12/04 Version 1.0 is complete!
New features will be added accordingly, or by importance as indicated by you. If you would like to see a specific feature available in JavaGrade, please let us know by sending an e-mail.
JPdaGrade is a port of the JavaGrade code to the Virtual Machine (VM) supported by WabaSoft. Since JPdaGrade uses the Java Virtual Machine (JVM) for its platform of execution, PDA that has a supported VM developed by WabaSoft will be able to run JPdaGrade. With JPdaGrade you can keep your grade book data on your computer back at home or at school, and while you’re on the road or in a location where you don’t have access to a computer, you can use your PDA with JPdaGrade installed on it to add/delete/view/modify student scores as well as other assignment information. JPdaGrade is not as full featured as JavaGrade or AGiSS GradeBook for Windows, but it serves as a nice assistant to these tools for times when you don’t have access to them.
JPdaGrade is currently supported on the HP Jornada, and the iPaq.
This software provides only a subset of the features
available from its big brothers JavaGrade and AGiSS GradeBook for Windows. Given its screen and memory constraints,
this version of the software will allow you to do anything you need to with
student grades or assignments. It
doesn’t support the more detailed functionality such as report generation and
printing. What it will do is allow you
to copy your grade book files from your computer where you use JavaGrade or
AGiSS GradeBook Software, to your PDA and then you can view or modify your
grade book files on your PDA. Then you
can copy the updated grade book files from your PDA back to your computer for
regular use.
This product is currently under development, so new features
will be added accordingly, or by importance as indicated by you. If you would like to see a specific feature available in JPdaGrade,
please let us know by sending an e-mail.
